From the Garden Studio

I am passionate about making beautiful jewellery and strive to do this as ethically and sustainably as possible. Everything is handmade in my garden studio produced in either very small batches or on a ‘made to order’ basis. Pieces are designed without current trends in mind, but instead with the hope of remaining relevant through being meaningful, with personalisation and individual design. All my offcuts and scraps are melted down to make my zero waste pieces, such as my best selling little discs and tiny stud earrings, which ensures absolutely nothing is wasted. I commit to making continuous efforts to improve the sustainability of the business going forward, always trying to make more considered decisions on production and resources.

Responsible Materials

My precious metal comes from a reputable UK based supplier, who are a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council. RJC is the world’s leading standard-setting organisation for the global jewellery industry which aims to promote ethically, socially and environmentally responsible processes in which human rights are respected at every stage of the supply chain. The precious metals in my work are all 100% recycled, meaning it is not newly mined and has been used within another process prior. Regretfully, the gold chains I currently sell are not recycled although they are bought from a UK supplier, this is something I am working towards. I work with local and family businesses within Scotland and the UK, such as the outsourcing of hand engraving and lost wax casting. I only use gemstones from suppliers who hold high standards in ethical and traceable gemstone sourcing.

Packaging

All orders are sustainably packaged using recycled/recyclable materials. The Darte branded gift boxes are made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. These are ideal storage boxes for your jewellery, ensuring each piece is kept at it’s best and free from oxidisation. Paper and card stationary are printed in the UK using recycled materials.

Hallmarking

Silver pieces weighing above the minimum threshold of 7.78g and gold items over 1g are required to be hallmarked by law. All my applicable pieces will come hallmarked from the Edinburgh Assay Office, which includes my personal makers mark.
